The murderous came near him with, ‘Be not an obstacle in the path of peace, young man. Move or you die.’

‘Excuse me, sir. I am new here. Could you please explain what this peace is for which you are ready to kill the little one?’

Vihan came to know about the founding and spread of the gang later. If anyone used such logic in his land, he was sure to get free bread for a long time in some asylum.

One member of the gang shouted at Vihan, ‘No time to explain. If you want, you can join us later. Right now, move. Move, move.’

Vihan remembered how the folks of this period came up with brainwaves that they declared to be either of divine origin or as revolutionary. Precedence was given to persons more than principles. ‘Stupid,’ he used to smile.

He decided to shoot in the dark, ‘Sorry sir, but how do you know that your founder alone knows the way to peace? Whosoever can have come up with such a silly idea?’ He was confident that the idea must have come from a brain suffering from thought dysentery.

‘You rascal! Son of a black hole! Worm of a lost missile! How dare you address our leader like that? He is to be addressed as Noble; the great. And you dare question his wisdom, you rotten fruit of hell! Since you are from outside, we will let you go by chopping off your hand after we are done with this girl. Now hand her over.’

‘But, why all this, sir?’

‘For a better tomorrow. For a glorious future. If a little blood is spilled for that, it is a small price to pay.’

‘I am the future, sir.’

Sibi trembled behind Vihan, oozing fear through her breathing, the sound of which was painful to bear for the sensitive.

The gunman said, ‘We knew from the start that sooner or later you will claim to be our competitor. This always happens. So, be ready to taste hell, you stinking product of sewage. All your dung talks about being new were a ploy to distract us.’

‘You stink, sir!’ said Vihan. He was confident that everyone in this place stank, so he was sure to be correct even with his olfactory sense shut. He also felt ashamed to use such words towards those whom he did not even know, howsoever uncouth they might be. His culture did not allow abuse or abusive words.

‘Look, we are here to take this wretch, the viper in making. That will bring some sense in the head of that snake of a man, Jeshi. We hope he learns to respect us after this. Now, move.’

The girl clutched at Vihan’s legs fearfully. She did not want to die.

Silence.

‘We gave you enough chance in the hope that you will join us. Now, here you go. Henceforth you will be visible only in pics,’ said another one.

‘I am one and you are three. Isn’t it an unfair fight?’

‘You brought it upon yourself, mate. We will forgive your misdeeds if you promise to join our fold.
